Club Djembe VIP Lounge Takeover

To celebrate the release of the “VIP Lounge” EP, the Club Djembe crew invited a truly VIP selection of friends, family, and special guests to the SWU studios for a daylong takeover

Part 1 of the all-day takeover featured a selection of guests hailing from New York to Berlin, whilst the EP artists and a couple of special guests Scratcha DVA, LR Groove, Razzler Man, Dean Lyon, DJ Polo & NKC joined the crew live for part 2.

Following on from DJ Polo’s raucous, genre-defying statement, Look Back to Move Forward, Club Djembe friends and family don their best shirts and shoes for the VIP Lounge release.

Truly an all-star cast, VIP Lounge brings together a group of London-based producers all deeply rooted in the city’s ever-developing musical history: from Soulful House and UK Funky to the latest waves of Afrohouse, Amapiano and Funkyama.

Paying homage to the more extravagant side of London’s underground house scene, the tracks are united by airy harmonies and sultry red-carpet grooves. But, even between the champagne flutes, they never lose an underlying sense of grit and bass-weight that keeps them all perfectly primed for the club.

East London veteran Dean Lyon supplies the opener, ‘Gusto Riddim’, winding it back with loose hand-drum lines, drifting pads and breezy guitars. Up next with ‘I Need You’, Razzlerman provides the anthem to hold your partner to. MA1 hits peaktime with the sweetly menacing ‘Back Home’, a driving and undeniably catchy xylophone tapping out his signature chord progressions.

Moving the VIP Lounge into heads-down atmospheres, LR Groove channels ancestral Afrohouse with hypnotic percussion riffs and haunting calls in ‘As One’. European 305 meld RnB sensibilities into their newly pioneered Funkyama sound with the shimmering ‘Up’, creating the perfect space for Yazmin Manassib’s heart-breaking vocal.
